Letter Create Studio – New Vision – New Plan – Opening March 2021

Letter Create has always been a business based on gathering community for learning, creating, and crafting.  Gathering for workshops, classes, and retreats in our studio, in Milwaukee’s Third Ward, in Madison’s Barriques and Cafe Domestique, and more.

Two years ago I attended the Philadelphia Pen Show with my Aunt and Cousin.  We went to the show, got a few pens, and then we ventured all over Philadelphia hitting every single stationery, gift, and pen store we could find.  I walked into every one of those stores and my vision for my business changed.  I wished and prayed and hoped for one day having a stationery and gift store.  Where I taught classes and where I sold things that I loved.  I came home and spent about 2 months completely re-writing my business plan.  This vision included a retail store.  Then I shelved it and talked about it for the last two years, not thinking that it was actually something within my reach.

Then in the winter of 2019, I started exploring opportunities and found that this was not completely out of reach for me.  I researched and explored all avenues and ideas and finally found an ideal location – actually I narrowed it down to two locations.  The first location was a super cute consignment store in a house but the issue was no parking and I could not figure out a layout for my classes (my goal was to increase the class size from my studio downtown – which was at 12/14) and that would have been unachievable in a house set up with rooms scattered.  The second location offered a full build-out to my specifications and an occupancy certificate that would allow me to increase my class size (this was before Covid-19).  I was able to legally establish my business with the proper and legal occupancy certificate, business classification, and meeting the requirements of my insurance company and the village.  My goal then was to open my store in April of 2020.

THEN the pandemic happened and it seems every day new rules, science, data, and information comes out.  Some of it is promising but some of it is scary.

We have had (in my state) restrictions in place, the school canceled, businesses closed and then they were lightly lifted to 5 people and then yesterday it was anything could be opened – just go for it.

So it has left me with what should I do about the beautiful space I now have?  What should I do about my business I worked so hard to build?  I have gone over tons of ideas.

Opportunity 2:  Consignment

We will be taking on consigners – makers – crafters to sell their items virtually in our store.
We originally were going to not take a percentage and instead have you give your time running the store (I.e. you could have sold your items and worked one Saturday a month in the store and kept all your retail sales) NOW we are going to morph into two sectors with consignment.  I DO NOT want to take a percentage – it went against what my vision was – to help you grow your business without taking any cut, but its financially impossible to do this without an actual retail store.
*Virtual Shopping Experience – we will feature items on our Facebook Page, Instagram, Newsletter and Website
*Retail Shopping By Appointment Only – we will set up this scheduling feature on our Facebook Page and our Website – we will promote it with all the social we can  (My dad will be handling the shopping experience for me – I cannot under zero circumstances break quarantine with my son’s health issues).
What we require from you:
*We have created a form/contract regarding your items (a from for what you submit, our policies, etc….nothing crazy).
*We will take a 30% Commission from your Retail Sold amount (keep this in mind when pricing your items – you lose about 40-50 on Etsy by comparison)
*We will handle the delivery of the products (curbside pick up, shipping or delivery)
*If you have your own social media it would only serve you better if you share or tag your items – it will more than double your reach for your business and increase your opportunities – we will guide you through this
I have a program that will allow you to log in and track your sales – allow me to pay you virtually and determine your analytics – access will be gained after we have a contract in place.  You will also set your pricing in that portal.
If you want to start this process just send an email to me at info@lettercreate.com – subject line “consignment”

Opportunity 3:  Virtual Pop Up Shop

You will get the opportunity to use my space as a virtual Pop-Up Shop.
*Virtual Shopping Experience – we will feature items on our Facebook Page, Instagram, Newsletter and Website
*Virtual Shopping Experience – we will feature a LIVE show (you will gain access to the retail space to set up and film – we will arrange this with my dad) – we will use an app called StreamYard – and it will stream you and me on a split screen in my store – onto Facebook Live and Youtube.  You will then be able to login to our Instagram from the store iPad and do a LIVE Instagram shopping show there.
*Retail Shopping By Appointment Only – we will set up this scheduling feature on our Facebook Page and our Website – we will promote it with all the social media we can  (My dad will be handling the shopping experience for me – I cannot under zero circumstances break quarantine with my son’s health issues).
Your items will be continually promoted for the entire week.  During this time you can do different live shopping experiences like “Cocktails and Crafts”…etc….we can come up with some ideas.
What we require from you:
*We have created a form/contract regarding your items (a from for what you submit, our policies, etc….)
*We will take a 30% Commission from your Retail Sold amount
*If you have your own social media it would only serve you better if you share or tag your items – it will more than double your reach for your business and increase your opportunities – we will guide you through this
*We will deduct $200 for the week of renting our space – this can be deducted at the end of your Virtual Pop Up Shop or you can pay upfront.  We do require a 50% non-refundable deposit upfront.
I have a program that will allow you to log in and track your sales – allow me to pay you virtually and determine your analytics – access will be gained after we have a contract in place.  You will also set your pricing in that portal.
